By Dane Ortlund
Jesus has a heart for sinners. This is the exceptionally encouraging message of Gentle and Lowly. Ortlund's book (216 pages) springs from Matthew 11:28-29. There, Jesus invites sinners to "Come unto me all you who are weak and heavy laden and I will give you rest." Jesus' continues his encouragement saying, "Take my yoke upon you for I am gentle and lowly in heart."
Jesus sympathizes with sinners. He calls out "Come." He declares, "I am gentle and lowly." Jesus' heart is humble and gracious—not condemnatory.
Ortlund closes his book this way: "Go to him. All that means is open yourself up to him. Let Him love you. The Christian life boils down to two steps:
Go to Jesus.

If you think your sin is too great or too often or too awful for God to love you, this book will encourage you in your walk with God.
by Robert J. Morgan
This 130 page Reader's Digest type book explores Exodus 14, the story of God delivering his people out of slavery in Egypt. The event, which illustrates God's deliverance of mankind in Jesus Christ, is a foundational story in scripture.
The author presents 10 rules—better called lessons—which may be drawn from the Red Sea experience. Each chapter feature numerous anecdotes where the lesson is applied to the life of a Christian. The book is far from deep theologically...and sometimes even inconsistent in these things. Nevertheless, Morgan's observations and applications are often insightful, especially when we feel trapped at our Red Seas. Discussion questions close each chapter.
