The Bible is to be read, reflected upon, studied, and applied to one's life. Doing so will be a source of godly wisdom.
Because the Bible is God-spoken, your time spent with the Bible is time spent with God. God's Word is what the Holy Spirit uses to teach and direct you.
The videos, studies, and articles listed below are helpful in developing one's experience with the Bible.
The Good News Is...
Bread, rolls, pastry, potatoes, carrots, broccoli, peppers, tomatoes, zucchini, chicken, beef, pork, fish, lemon pie, spice cake, Twinkies, cookies, milk, beer, wine, pop, water—all food and drink to keep a person physically alive. In a sense they are all “bread” eaten and drunk to sustain the human body day by day.
All these and other food have no spiritual value as Jesus so pointedly explained to his disciples:
(Isn’t it amazing that some people today still think that eating or abstaining from certain foods will gain one favor before God?)
What Jesus declares in Matthew 4:4 is not, of course, especially about physical food. Jesus’ point is a man must feed and consume God’s Word as we do food in order to live spiritually. Are you living by “every word that proceeds from the mouth of God?” If you aren’t, you are starving yourself spiritually; and you are very likely spiritually ill. Or, perhaps, you are spiritually “skin and bones,” trusting in some religious experience or a distant church procedure which offers no benefit to your daily spiritual needs.
The good news is you don’t have to starve spiritually. Jesus says:
Spiritual life and growth begins with consuming God’s Word, the Bible. Begin by reading the Gospel of Mark or the Gospel of John. Focus on the words and work of Jesus. Read small portions and ask God to “feed you spiritually—to give you understanding of how to apply what He says to your life.” That way, instead of you trying to make sense of the Bible, God will make sense of it for you. So much is gained when we stop trying to prepare the meal ourselves and instead permit God to teach us.
Feed yourself spiritually every day by spending time with God in His Word. It will deliver “spirit and life” to you exactly as Jesus said.
